What We Stand For
Birth Freedom PA defends the right of individuals and families to choose their birth provider, model of care, and place of birth without unnecessary barriers. We support the continued practice of traditional midwifery, a longstanding part of Pennsylvania’s history, and advocate for all birth workers to serve their communities fully, according to their training and tradition!
WHO WE ARE
We are a group of collaborating midwives from all different areas and traditions. Our collective midwifery experience spans generations and we seek to serve women autonomously and maintain that right for all midwives across the state.
We Seek
(1) To protect the right of women to direct and choose their prenatal, labor and birth, and postpartum care. This includes the right to decline any service, treatment, or type of care and the right to choose both where to give birth and who may attend the birth;
(2) To increase access to prenatal, labor and birth, and postpartum care by ensuring birth centers and other safe locations for labor and delivery can open and operate without unreasonable burdens;
(3) To ensure that providers who provide care to families during pregnancy, labor and birth, and postpartum can offer safe, quality care and practice to the full extent allowed by their training; and
(4) To prohibit state agencies from creating future occupational licensure requirements for providers that offer prenatal, labor and birth, or postpartum care and to encourage the Legislature to make any future occupational licenses voluntary, not mandatory.
